3 Reasons You Should Have a Beauty Trial Before Your Wedding

True story….I was 21 when I got married the first time. We didn’t hire a planner and honestly I had no idea what I was doing. I knew I wanted my hair and makeup done though. (total tomboy and had no idea how to do either)

The day of my wedding, the makeup artist arrives and asks how do I want my makeup done. I tell her I don’t care and for her to do what she thought was best.

She finishes and turns me around to see myself in the mirror. I tell her thank you and she leaves. I then proceed to cry. I HATED IT! I thought I looked like a clown. I was used to no makeup and she went with a dramatic look (for a daytime wedding). Needless to say I didn’t want photos done because of how embarrassed I was.

Fast forward to being a planner and I can not STRESS enough to have a makeup and hair trial done before the wedding. Here are three reasons why it is so important.

1. A trial run is more than just a practice run for hair and makeup. It is the perfect opportunity to get to know your artist’s personality and their skill level, and to determine if they are the right fit for you. You want to be comfortable with them and make sure they are able to execute your desired style or makeup look. You aren’t having your wedding without a rehearsal. A trial run is just the rehearsal for the wedding day.

2. No matter how hypoallergenic the makeup they use is, you don’t want to find out the day of your wedding that you all of the sudden have a new allergy. My skin is very sensitive and I can barely wear anything that isn’t made for my condition. If you don’t normally wear makeup then you need to make sure that won’t happen to you.

3. When setting your timeline, you have no idea how long it will take to get your desired look. You don’t want to be rushing around right before the ceremony because your makeup took an hour longer than expected. You will have enough nerves already, don’t add extra stress on top of it.

When should you have your trial run? Ask your whoever is doing your makeup when they suggest. Typically its several weeks to a few months out from your wedding date. You want to make sure you have time to make any changes if you don’t like the look. Also, think about the season you are getting married in. If it is summer when you do the trial and the wedding is in the winter, will you have the same tan?

Having a trial run will save you from walking down aisle worrying about how you look instead of walking down the aisle focusing on the love of your life.
